| A porous silica matrix acts as storage and carrier of ingredients for cleansing, cosmetics, and hygiene products, comprising of the said ingredients and silica, water-soluble solvents, surfactants, and additives. The silica matrix accounts for 1-10 vol.% of the material, with the stored ingredients comprising 90-99 vol.%. The matrix releases the stored ingredient once contacted with water. The release rate from the silica matrix can be adjusted to deliver an optimal amount of the cleansing, cosmetic, and hygiene ingredients, and at the end of life, the spent matrix, consisting mainly of silica and water, can be safely disposed without polluting the environment. Moreover, the structural rigidity, shape, and color of the matrix can be tailored to the application needs. |
